Permissions Preview

The Graffiti team is nearing the finishing line for the 1.1 release. You will likely see a beta in the next week or two.

One of the most anticipated features of Graffiti 1.1 is a feature we call "Permissions". Permissions allow you (the site administrator) to control the follow access to your content at the category level instead of site wide.

Here is a screen shot of the role/permission page:

Category Permissions

As you can see from the above, we are going to support three different permissions per category:

  • Read - Can the current user view a post in the current category?
  • Edit - Can the current user create/update a post in the current category?
  • Publish - Can the current user publish a post in the current category? In Graffiti 1.0 this would have required the user to be a Manager or Administrator.

The other part we really tried to focus on was making this feature ignorable if you do not want to use it. As you can see from the top of the preview image, permissions can be set across all categories in one location and overridden only when needed.

Note: Everything in this post is subject to change by the actual release.

How does the licensed limit of 10(25) content publishers fit in there? Does the system track/identify 10(25) users marked for Edit/Publish throughout all roles? And users in Read-only roles do not count?!

Thanks

Hi Jim,

Yes, licensing is based on users that have Edit & Publish permissions.

People who purchased 1.0 will this upgrade be free for them? If yes, how about future upgrades?

Scott.. will the permissions be part of the community edition?
