Early this week, we announced that VistaDB will be the database that Graffiti uses by default. You will be able to use other databases (SQL Server and MySQL) too, but we liked VistaDB for a variety of reasons. One of which we're officially announcing today:
Graffiti is going to run on Mono!
There are a variety of reasons why adding Mono support makes sense. But the biggest reason is choice. It gives you more choices for how yiou want to use Graffiti.
By supporting Mono, (in addition to Microsoft .NET), Graffiti will be available on the following platforms:
Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, and Unix
We're not there yet, but we've been working closely with some folks on the Mono team to help make the necessary changes in Graffiti so that it runs on Mono. Everyday we get a little closer, but we're far enough along now that we're ready to start talking about it.
great news!
Great concept! Keep up the good work!
Great to hear looking forward to hearing about Mono support
Rob, consider using EntitySpaces for Graffiti, we not only support VistaDB but we run under Mono as well. We support SQL and SQL/CE, MySQL, Oracle, Access, VistaDB, PostgreSQL.
We also support Database Independence, it is possible to have a single binary application run against all our databases, in fact, our massive NUnit tests do just that.
If you're interested contact us, we could partner on the effort. Here's our blog post on Mono www.entityspaces.net/.../blog this is current, ie, ES2007 runs just fine under Mono.
