As we have previously mentioned, Graffiti 1.0 will ship with VistaDB[1] as the default database (provider).
VistaDB was chosen as the default because it has better support for multiple environments (Medium Trust, 64-bit, and Mono) compared to Microsoft Access. However, if you are already using Access or simply prefer it, you will still be able to use it.
In addition to VistaDB, we are also adding one more database provider, MySQL. The setup and install experience for MySQL is very similar to SQL Server. You will be find the necessary files and steps in the beta 2 download.
Finally, in the beta 2 release you will find a new utility currently called "DataMover". DataMover is a Windows application we wrote which will enable you to move all of your Graffiti data to and from any of our four database providers. DataMover will also be the required tool for upgrading to newer versions of VistaDB and Access. The tool works really well now and will get even better in-between beta 2 and the final release.

[1] VistaDB is licensed by Telligent. To use it in Graffiti will not require you obtain your own license nor will it require any additional work by your ISP.
Can you explain where SQL Server Express fits in? Since it is a free product, and fits in well with the free Visual Studio Express offerings, it seems logical to support it as well (I'm running it now without any issues that I can tell).
Hi Kip,
The you could use this same tool/etc with SQL Express.
Since SQL Express not appropriate for shared hosting, we generally do not recommend it unless you have your own server.
Thanks,
Scott
Fair enough, Scott, the shared hosting scenario makes a lot of sense. I am on a dedicated server here.
